The typical timeline
A standard walk-in shower — demo through final cleanup — takes 7 to 14 working days. Most of our projects land around 10 days. Here's the day-by-day:
Days 1–2: Demo
Out comes the old tub or shower, the surround, and any damaged drywall, subfloor, or framing. We inspect everything behind the walls — this is where hidden water damage or mold gets discovered and addressed. Dust containment goes up, floors get protected.
Days 3–5: Rough-in and waterproofing
Plumbing gets repositioned for the new drain and valve locations. The shower pan is built and sloped. Then the full waterproofing membrane system goes on — walls and pan. This is the most important phase and the one you never see again. After waterproofing cures, we flood-test the pan: fill it with water, mark the level, wait 24 hours. No drop, no leak, we proceed.
Days 6–9: Tile
Floor tile first (so the slope is perfect), then walls. Grout after the tile sets. This is the visible craftsmanship phase — straight lines, tight joints, patterns that line up. Rushing tile work is how you get lippage and crooked grout lines, so we don't.
Days 10–12: Glass, fixtures, finish
Glass gets measured after tile is done (never before — tile thickness varies). While glass is being fabricated (usually a week), we install the shower valve trim, showerhead, and any accessories. Glass install, final caulk, deep clean, and walkthrough with you.
What causes delays
- Hidden damage. Rotten subfloor or mold behind the old shower adds days. We find this on most remodels — it's why we inspect during demo, not after.
- Plumbing surprises. Cast-iron drain lines that crumble, supply lines in the wrong place, slab complications. Common in older Florida homes.
- Glass lead time. Custom frameless glass takes 7–10 days to fabricate after final measurement. We order the moment tile is done to minimize the gap.
- Permit inspections. Most Florida cities require a rough-in inspection before walls close and a final at the end. Inspector schedules add a day or two of buffer.
- Change orders. Deciding mid-project to add a niche, change tile, or move a fixture restarts parts of the sequence. Finalize selections before demo.
How to plan
If this is your only shower, plan for two weeks without it. Many customers schedule around a vacation. We'll give you a written schedule before we start — and we'll tell you straight if your project has factors that push it longer. Call (407) 434-9297 to talk timeline for your bathroom.
